The "Business Plan" Way ??

As MBAs we are supposed to be good at understanding and solving business problems/situations. Though these 'problems' are mainly business related, many techniques/methods used in business are off-shoots from military, philosophy and practical 'common sense' , which are adopted to business situations. The 'Art of War' for Marketing, 'Game Theory' for Strategy, 'Kiezen' for Operations, etc are such examples of adaptation to business situations.
The Indian Institute of MANAGEMENT (not 'Business') is known to breed 'Leaders'. The students take on business roles,.. but the institute trains them in MANAGEMENT. So are institutes like XLRI, SP Jain etc... Their advertisement read like "we produce students who challenge the status quo" , " to be leaders in their domains" etc.
Hence as MBA students of IBS should'nt we be ready to take situations others than business....but MANAGEMENT ?
Here comes the opportunity......
Make Business Plans for NGOs/ Orphanages/Old age homes
Our 'Management' mindset should be able to produce such plans so as to generate a continous/sustaining stream of cash flows for these organisations themselves.
This will make them self-reliant rather than being dependant on others for 'charity'. We need to empower them rather than support them by grants/aids.
...think the Business Plan way !!

Yi Opinion Board

The Opinion Board that was used to express shock and outrage at the Mumbai Attack made us realise that it was a very effective medium for gathering a large pool of opinion at practically no cost, time or effort.
The impact of catchy, intelligent and powerfull one-liners can be used to provoke thought and reason for positive action.
The "Next Practices Identifiers" have proposed to make use of the opinion board to gather triggers and suggestions from the Board to good effect.
Students who pen ideas/views to the Opinion Board will be appreciated and their contribution will be taken with respect and value. It is proposed that the Best Voted Idea will carry forward to the next day and will form a base for further thought.
The words penned on the Board can be used to obtain instant support and following of about 600-700 students. Surely........Mighter than the Sword !!

Come.. Join Us!!!

Hey young Indians..
The whole country is bleeding. the responsibility of Mumbai blasts is not only on the shoulders of the Army,Intelligence, or politicians, but on all of us as a nation. This is the high time that we question ourselves that where we want to see our country in 2022, 75 years after the independence.
Prof. C.K.Prahalad,
the management guru, has given a vision for us to work upon in this regard. So join us and let's achieve the dream of becoming a super power in the coming years.

The proposal by Prof C K Prahalad consists of a set of 9 visions. These are:

In the year 2022:

  1. India has the World’s Largest Pool of Trained Manpower
  2. India becomes the home for at least 30 of the Fortune 100 firms
  3. India accounts for 10 per cent of Global Trade (Indian Exports / World Exports ~ 1.35%)
  4. India becomes a source of Global Innovations
  5. India focuses on the Bottom of the Pyramid as a Source of Innovations for the World
  6. India has a Flowering of Arts, Science, Sports and Literature
  7. India has a Renewal of Agriculture to reach World Class Productivity Levels
  8. India has 500 World-class Cities through Planned Urbanization
  9. India becomes the New Moral Voice for People Around the World

While the above is Prof C K Prahalad’s vision, the CII Yi has taken upon itself to develop a comprehensive vision document from the general public. This would involve students, politicians, professionals, farmers etc. A hierarchy of District level, State level and National levels has been formed. In order to have systematic collection and documentation of the vision the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has been appointed as consultants. In addition ICRA has also been employed for specific purposes. The final vision document will be presented to the Prime Minister on 15th January 2009.

While the compilation itself would have reached a particular level, the realization itself would be a long drawn sustained endeavor of all the participants to achieve the Vision.
